I submitted to some and it gave nice results. For some of the keywords I even got to Google 1st page.

I've tried a few press releases, but the problem was that the trade sites in the industries I am interested in were totally seo-unfriendly, with terrible dynamic urls and such. They never showed up as backlinks.

I go for articles sites now, but if you know of a great site for press releases, I'm sure we'd be happy to have a look.

Are you doing only the article submission, or drive traffic from targeted traffic placed on your site too? I am wondering because this 'vice versa' technique works too.

I tested it on my site: it gave increase in SE traffic, subscriptions to my mailing list (which means the traffic is taregeted), my pages get indexed by SEs quickly (I use some technologies for that, but it's automated) and AdSense profits increased too.

So, playing on the other side of the game is also nice. Do you use the same? Are you successful in it?

Press releases have links so it can be another way to promote your home page url.

Some are free to do. Look up keyword in Google.
